Post Office ® Ashwater Branch

During the local public consultation, the main concerns expressed by respondents in relation to our proposal to close this branch and replace it with an Outreach service were the potential effect of the proposed closure on the community as a whole (including outlying villages), the availability of public transport in the area and the low levels of car ownership in the village.
Information was also provided on a new development in the centre of the village, where 32 new homes are under construction.

Post Office Limited has considered all responses received and a review of this proposal has been undertaken. Taking all relevant factors into account, including the needs of our vulnerable customers, Post Office Limited has decided to proceed with the proposed closure of Post Office ® Ashwater branch and its replacement with an Outreach service. The replacement Outreach service will mitigate the impact of many of the issues raised during the local public consultation in relation to access to services within the local area.

In respect of the proposed Outreach service, respondents expressed a number of concerns relating to the perceived reliability of the proposed Mobile service, the proposed visiting times, the capacity of the proposed location for the Mobile van and concerns that the Mobile service would be unable to accept parcels over 2kg.
In respect of the type of Outreach, other respondents suggested that a Hosted service at the current location of Post Office ® Ashwater branch would be more suitable.

Post Office Limited has considered and taken into account all comments offered during local public consultation relating to the provision of the Outreach service and all other relevant factors. In respect of the concerns expressed by respondents regarding the maximum parcel size that could be accepted by the proposed Mobile service, Post Office Limited can confirm that a Mobile van offers a complete range of Post Office ® services, including a full parcel service.

To date, no decision has been reached as to the type of Outreach service that will be provided.
However, in reaching a decision in this regard, full account will be taken of the feedback received to date. The precise details of the Outreach service will be communicated at the earliest opportunity.

As you may be aware the Ashwater Post Office is under threat of closure, to be replaced by an Out Reach Service (a van parked up for three hours twice a week!). This could affect the village shop.
