Items for the June Newsletter to ibuxton16@btinternet.com by Wednesday 24th June, please.Parish Hall
The final paperwork has been sent to and approved by the Big Lottery so that work on the New Hall can begin on June 15th.
Although there is now enough finance to begin building work, continued fundraising is still needed to complete the project. Further events will be announced soon.
At the AGM the following elections were made:
Chairman - L Langston, Vice Chairman - Eric Burnhill, Secretary - Ivan Buxton, Treasurer - Brian George.
Horticultural Club
Our June event will be a visit to Steve Mitchell at Tetcott who will give us tips and hints on exhibiting vegetables for the forthcoming show. The visit will be on Monday 8th June at 7.00 pm. If you are interested in going along, please call either Wendy 211449 or Fiona 221403. The plan is that we meet on our village green and then car share.
Show schedules are now ready. These can be obtained from either the Post Office or from Brian Cox at Manor Cottage. The schedules are 30p each, but first entry will be free.
Agricultural Committee
We had an excellent turn out of 16 teams for the April Quiz Night, the winners were team T1 (Isaacs).
Many thanks to all of those who helped organise and special thanks to Chris Britton, Pat May, Viv May and Phil Luxton (quiz master).
The proceeds will help towards organising the Annual Show, which will be held in the Show Field at Ashwater on Saturday 15th August 2009.
Ashwater Lunch Club
Everyone is welcome at The Village Inn at 12.30 pm on Wednesday June 3rd.

Mid-Summer (Impromptu) Barbecue
If the weather is good to us there will be an impromptu barbecue on the Village Green from Mid-day on Saturday June 20th 2009.
If it rains we can try again on Sunday 21st June 2009. This was suggested as a totally impromptu occasion, but unless you know about it you are not going to attend!
Please just turn up with your own barbecue and food etc. and let’s see how it goes.
Ruby Country
Through its website the ‘Ruby Initiative’ encourages the world to look the assets of the area as a destination promoted for its vibrant wildlife, dark skies, welcome hosts and quality local food. On this basis alone Ashwater is one of the jewels in its crown and long may it be so. By supporting the Ruby Project it in turn brings benefits to Ashwater, both direct and indirect, and has created a focal point for potential visitors to learn about the region, so why not give it a mention whenever you can. The Ruby Country has always had at its core the principles of triple-bottom line accounting - i.e. ensuring benefits accrue to community, economy and environment. With that background, a great deal of research has been done, pulling together the environmental aspects of Ruby Country, and in particular the impacts of tourism.
This information is all available at: www.therubycountry.com/ruby-pages/ruby-resources/117-ruby-audit.
The site includes a great interactive map that you can use to look up the environmental assets around your home, workplace or school. Please pass on the link to anyone who might be interested.

Thank You
After my recent accident, which resulted in a helicopter ride to Exeter Hospital, I am pleased to say that I am now home and on the road to recovery. I would like to thank everyone who helped on that day, with special thanks to those who looked after the horses - it was a great relief to me to know that they were ok. I would also like to say how touched I was by the number of visitors, get well wishes and offers of help received whilst in hospital and since being home - all of which are much appreciated. I look forward to being back in the saddle again and seeing everyone around the village.
