10We are in a unique position because we live on the main Halwill/Holsworthy road where to a large extent Ashwater facilities do not affect us. But prior to this we lived at Gerry's cottage by the Green and we are in a position to comment since we were in the village for 6 years. Reference to para.17 The bus service Exeter/Bude passes by us and consequently there is no difficulty in getting out. When we were actually in the village and for a time we had no car, more obviously was.
24We spend most of our time at home, or at work so presently have very little interaction with Ashwater's services and facilities
34The damage to verges is increasing at an alarming rate. Young tractor drivers do not stop to allow passing, but drive off the roads onto verges at speed. We consider action to be a priority with letters to all farmers/contractors ASAP pointing out that action will be taken if culprits are seen.
49I consider the provision of a new village hall to be crucial to the future of the village. It would enable the village services to improve and the community to thrive. If housing development is inevitable in the village, then perhaps we should investigate some "planning gain" method of raising funds for the hall in return for development approval
52Representation should be made to TDC to change their rules on barn conversions. The use of these often important buildings should not be restricted to holiday cottages only. They should be bought into general housing market.

  • 3 to 5 year plan for the parish should be advertised well.
  • Prior to any planning approval/recommendation all ethical procedures must be recognised by all council members at all times.
  • In part or in whole no parish councillor should be taking part or giving recommendations if he/she has any relationship with planning applicants.
  • Any type of housing should blend into the traditional form, landscapes should not be affected.
  • The greatest respect for existing residents wishes should be paid appropriate planning should guard against self interest and profiteering
54The first 6 options apply to the village of Ashwater, so for me are really academic. All the facilities are desirable, but not needed, and would benefit a limited number of people so would not justify their creation. I have lived in this parish for 27 years life was much easier then. Tradesmen came round, we could get a bus to Plymouth once a month and Launceston every week, my house was paid for 20 years ago but now I feel I am being driven out by the ever increasing council tax combined with the withdrawal of the few services we did have. Even the Dr's surgery in Holsworthy is practically out of reach. I feel the quality of life is deteriorating because of the lack of opportunity to interact with other people and I am sure that people of all ages feel they are becoming isolated.
73Village green grass not properly cut, too long. Dogs still fouling green. Signs not working. No covered dog bin. Rubbish bin used instead. Health hazard
94The perception of Ashwater parish council held by the local planning authority is that it does not support any development in the village. We need limited development in the village to sustain local services and facilities. Without any development in the village Ashwater will degenerate, and we will lose more facilities from the village. It is highly regrettable that the parish council rejected the proposal for a mixed development on the land owned by Messrs. Lewens and Bolton to the west of the village inn. The new village hall would have been much better situated; further sport and recreational facilities could have been provided, and a reasonable amount of housing development would have helped to secure a better future for the village and its amenities. The parish council should learn from its mistakes and work collectively for the common well being of the village
108If school facilities were made available to the local community this could affect how much the new parish hall was used
127I do think that more money should be put towards repairing the roads in and around Ashwater
133This is a very scattered village and the extremities feel rather out of touch and forgotten.
134I live on the outskirts of Ashwater in a rural situation so the village green and street lighting does not apply. I don’t want you to think I was not interested in the parish and the problems it has.
149With comparatively little expenditure plus imagination and determination, the village green could easily be made really attractive and become a village focal point thereby helping to create more of a community spirit. All those responsible for producing this comprehensive impressive survey should be congratulated and thanked in no small way, certainly they are doing a great job on behalf of Ashwater community. It is really irrelevant but I suspect Ashwater community find it difficult to discover a NHS dentist nearby.
153Ashwater parish covers a large area. We live 4 plus miles from the village and we feel remote from the village centre. We are obviously concerned that the facilities of the village are up to date and maintained, if only for the benefit of the people that live in the immediate vicinity.
