Ashwater Parish Survey

Survey Comments Question 22

Would you be prepared to pay a slightly higher parish precept to meet some of the needs of Ashwater?

5I would have expected under grounding of cables i.e. electric and telephone would be down to the suppliers.
9Only living on very boundary it does not apply
17But with the emphasis on "slightly" would not want to see the sort of increase Halwill experienced this year
29Donations to the Village Green fund could be recorded on a brass or stone plaque at £250.00 per person.
32Presume that this relates to Council tax so emphatically no. Council tax has increased 100% in 8 years. I hope your income has. 25% more likely however. Also many pensioners whether state or private have seen Council tax increase far in excess of their own pension increase in actual terms over the past 2 or 3 years. This raises many questions.
35In view of the difficulties some people are experiencing with the current high rating increase all other possible funding bodies should be explored for help in these areas before the Precept is raised.
50Only for the parish hall
53Council tax has gone up enough thank you
54Every month 1 weeks retirement pension goes to Torridge Council, for which I receive 4 plastic bags and precious little else. I consider that I am already paying for plenty of facilities from which I am never going derive any benefit. I went to Ashwater village 4 times last year 3 times accompanying a friend to see her children taking part in school activities, and once with a friend to the church flower festival which gave me the chance to put flowers on my husbands grave.
61Funds for a new parish hall should not be forced on everyone
68In all major and minor roads
79If there was to be some extra parish funds available, I would hope the playgroup could be a priority as they are currently loosing £1000 plus per term. The playgroup will soon be unable to survive which could then jeopardise the main school, as parents might prefer their children to attend one of the other local schools which are able to offer continuity of education from 3 to 11. If the village was to lose any educational provision this would probably deter people from moving/living here.
87So far as the parish hall is concerned facilities should be considered for the hall that would draw outside interest. If just a hall is provided then the precept may have to be raised to maintain it. If other facilities are provided then the hall could be self-financing.
93Barn Park footpath. Our compliments to whoever carried out the work on the public footpath opposite the church. Can anything be done to prevent people parking on the grass verges? Example verge below Sunny Pooh Corner at Cross Lanes
101To raise funds for new village hall but NOT underground cables or cosmetic advancement
103Anything like the new village hall I support totally and I would personally help raise funds like a sponsored swim. It won't raise millions but every penny counts.
107Reference village green — scruffy! Grass too long even after cutting and full of weeds. Rubbish bin broken and a poor appearance. Remove old untidy notices and signs on various poles around green. Poles and power lines/BT lines unsightly. Some Jubilee Court houses need painting. Plant some trees.
112As a means of funding the building of the hall and N.B for future maintenance. I am in favour of under grounding cables, but not funding such a project if it should solely be around the village green.
118Undergrounding of cables not needed. What do I get for my £1,300 plus
124I feel that everybodys council tax and general household bills are high enough as it is without paying extra for things which should come out of monies already paid
125Undergrounding of cables on the hill as well as round the green
127No, as I find I pay far to much council tax as it is
130We feel our council tax is too high for retirement people like us.
132There is no need whatsoever to place the cables around the green underground. This is a ludicrous idea. Think of the chaos. Spend the money on repairing the roads around the green.
133For communal uses. Cables are only for prettifying the village. This should be a working village not a chocolate box.
157Putting cables underground is an utter waste of money. Silly question — depends what extra money would be spent on.
172I would want to be kept informed of exactly what money was being spent on the various improvements and schemes.
173We feel the current rise in the property tax is enough without adding to it.
