Ashwater Parish Survey
Survey Comments On Question 6 — Housing
Which of the following options for future development do you support within the parish?
In keeping with the rural aspect of the area. None of the suburban areas such as Brandis Corner and new estate at Chilsworthy.
More developments built for younger people i.e. first time buyers
Low cost housing with residency qualification
Particularly affordable development for local people.
The village needs development, to ensure that it stays alive with new families and new children for the school, but it is crucial that the community develops in a slow, measured increase. Proper consideration must be given to improved facilities and traffic management.
Tasteful barns converted are better than big groups of houses in small areas.
Starter homes to be kept in keeping with the area are needed
The small size of the village was one of the main reasons we decided to move here. Any developments, beyond the occasional single house, will be likely to alter the feel of the village, which would defeat my purposes of moving to a small rural village
No housing estates. Single houses only.
With affordable housing
Limited development should be primarily for local needs and in the first instance should focus on the possible utilisation/refurbishment/renovation of existing buildings that may exist in the parish and may be suitable for housing or small business start up purposes
Since moving to Ashwater 3 years ago we feel there has been enough development and any more would diminish the rural aspect of this community
It is a lovely village but we do not feel it needs vast improvement or development
None on green fields
To many houses put on too small a site causing parking problems. Road infrastructure not good enough for present traffic levels more development, and corresponding increase in traffic.
Do not wish to have major housing development which would stretch all amenities and ruin the village
Environmentally friendly/sustainable
Please be observant — a few children catch the school bus but there is a lot of elderly wend this way through the village to see Hazel. The village will die if there is no young people coming in to make their home in Ashwater
No DSS housing, starter homes for local people, rented and family homes
Any development should provide a proportion of affordable housing for local people who wish to remain in the community in which they have grown up. Restriction on holiday homes and des res executive houses ought to apply
Ashwater is a quite rural area and both my husband and I feel that further development of any kind would cause problems. If more people move to the village where are they going to work? It would put a huge strain on local resources.
Biased towards affordable homes for young people [not for holiday purposes]
Any development should make a contribution to the facilities of the parish e.g. any village enhancement scheme
No expensive houses for rich outsiders. Cheap houses for young locals only.
Infrastructure quite inadequate for major development, roads, schools. Less barn conversions for holiday homes.
To blend in favourably with area, no identical boxes.
The infrastructure does not allow for any major development.
