Ashwater Parish Survey
Survey Comments Question 8 Parish Facilities
A scheme for a new parish hall is in hand. What other facilities do you feel the parish needs?
Regular bus services with link to railway station.
Maintenance costs!!
Bridleways [alongside cycle tracks maybe] as there are many more riders than even just a few years ago and very much more and larger traffic
The village shop and post office – very important these are retained. Visiting DHS services i.e. chiropody, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, baby clinics, mental health care etc., say at a dedicated facility in the new hall.
If council houses have to be built they should be in keeping with traditional builds
Keeping the area as a village and not allowing it to become a little town
Enforcement of dog fouling on green
Ideally I would like to see electric cables put under ground, with suitable sockets for use when fetes, fairs etc. are held on the green
More off road walking
Our post office/shop and church and school are all vital in a village such as Ashwater
Medical advice/MP – councillor drop-in service for Ashwater
Parish hall to include public toilets
Currently the post office is the central meeting point of the village as well as providing its standard role. In order to secure a long-term future could the post office be incorporated in the proposed parish hall? This would solve parking problems and would be owned by the community. It would give opportunities to develop the business e.g. meeting point/coffee. Pedestrian access would be necessary. Also tennis courts/bowling green
A recreational area [not necessarily a formal sports field] would be beneficial as at present, the young people in the village have nowhere to play or have a kick about and the facilities on the village green are only suitable for a certain age group
Flowers in boxes or beds
Keep the post office open
Post office/shop. Public house. Village school. Village newsletter. Recycling centre. Village trail leaflet. Church/chapel and public transport.
Just a suggestion but there are a fair few kids in the village maybe a mini youth centre could be provided i.e. snooker/pool drinks/choc.machine. There is one pub but it is good to steer kids away from alcohol. They can have fun without drink or drugs.
Bridleways
Improve public footpaths and bridleways
Perhaps a public/outside toilet could be incorporated into the new parish hall
Picnic benches on the green would be good and it should be cut and strimmed more often.
Bring back the butcher and his shop
To keep post office and shop open encouragement needed
Regularly empty dog bins on the green by the telegraph pole. Also it would be rather sensible to have one at one end of the public footpath by the church.
Village green needs to be cut shorter.
A recreational area for children to play safely with swings, slides, area for football etc., but no dogs [perhaps an area adjacent to the new hall].
Although it is late in the day to mention this, I do hope the new village hall will offer facilities for playing Badminton.
Regular bus services with link to railway station.
A café.
