Parish Hall Fundraising Committee

Funds are needed for running and maintaining the old hall as the building has to be insured and bills for water and electricity paid upon demand.

The new hall project has proved to be a mammoth task and the longer it takes to be built the greater the chances of construction costs increasing.

We have had terrific response from the community by way of support, both financial and in attending events and of course the recent news concerning success of our bid to the Big Lottery Fund has boosted morale no end.

The next ‘big push’ is now being made to bridge the gap between lottery funding and the actual sum needed to start work. The project has been divided into two phases, ground works and construction.

Phase 1 - Groundworks

We have applied to Torridge District Council and the Community Council for Devon for financial assistance and the result should be known in September 2008. As soon as the money is available we will instruct the contractors to commence work.

This aspect embraces moving the pole for the overhead power lines, trenching for essential services (drainage, sewers, ground source heat pipes etc.,), construction of the entrance, laying a wheelchair friendly path and provision of the car park.

Phase 2 - Construction

This is the erection of the building to include basic fittings and fixtures, specialist flooring and provision of such essentials as toilets, lighting and internal partitioning.

Thereafter a third phase will be introduced as we will need new tables, chairs and kitchen equipment, followed by the fourth, which will entail actually running the new hall - but for the moment we must concentrate on Phase 1.

Community fund raising is virtually a way of life, especially in areas such as Ashwater where so much depends local social interaction. There are very many worthy causes, but when the new hall is built it will be so much easier and more comfortable to run a wide variety events.

Please continue to donate as much time and support as you can to helping us build a new hall for future generations as well as our enjoyment today.

The committee welcome ideas for events and activities - some may not be possible to promote at present, but don’t let that put you off as sometimes it takes many months, even years to organise special occasions.

Please contact Sue Carman, Jan Madge or Diane Buxton if you have a suggestion for a fund raising event or simply email your contact details via this web site to hallfundraiser@ashwaterparish.org.uk.

Parish Hall meetings are held at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of every month - everyone is welcome.
