Ashwater Horticultural Society

Your Local Gardening Club

The Horticultural society has been in existence for nearly 75 years but due to the foot and mouth problem in 2001 together with other problems has not been very active. The earliest notes/minutes we have on file are from June 1946. However in 2002 there was a decision made to hold an Annual Show and then new Officers would take over and try to rejuvenate the society. The Show was a success and new Officers were elected in Sept 2002. The Village had said that it wanted more than an Annual show so the Officers got to work and a new constitution was agreed by members and there would be regular meetings held throughout the year.

The revamped Society now holds meetings or visits about once a month in the Village Hall on a Monday evening. There is also an Annual Show held in August, this years Show was the 73rd. All are welcome to come along to the meetings where speakers talk and give slide shows on a whole range of subjects. There is a small annual fee to join the Society and at the meetings a nominal charge is made, both of these help to cover the cost of the speakers. In September each year the Annual General Meeting is held, where the officers report on the previous year and the officers for the coming year are elected.

Meetings are advertised on the Village Notice Board and in the Parish Newsletter. If you are interested in gardening please come along to one of our meetings and enjoy an evening with friends, have a cup of tea and join in the fun.

Minutes of the AGMs and Notes of past meetings are available, as are details of future meetings/events
