Ashwater Horticultural Society Minutes

Click here for minutes of the next meeting.The meeting was held at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. There were 10 members present.
At earlier meetings this year Pat Brown and Laurence Langston said that they did not want to continue running the Society but would help put the Annual Show in place for this year and then step down. The Show took place on the 17th August 2002 in conjunction with the Agricultural Show.
This meeting was called to discuss the show and elect into post new officers to run the club. The new officers were duly proposed and elected as follows:-

The meeting then continued to discuss the Show and concluded that despite a smaller than usual number of entries it had been a success but at a future date the position regarding classes and whether or not to continue with the Agricultural Show would be discussed. The show having paid out all prize money, with an estimate for engraving, there was a surplus of about £78 thanks mainly to donations and the raffle.
The future of the Society was discussed and it was agreed that the Society should be the vehicle for change into a gardening club, which should meet on a regular basis, say once a month, rather than just deal with an annual show. The meetings could have speakers or displays and discuss general gardening issues. This would obviously cost money and it was agreed that there would be a membership fee per year and probably a charge per meeting together with a draw/raffle each month.
The existing bank balance would not necessarily be used to fund the new role of the society as a gardening club but at a later date be used for a suitable village project. The meeting agreed that the three officers should be signatories for the bank account
The next meeting will be held on 27th September and the Officers would try to arrange a speaker and publicise the new role of the society in meeing the gardening needs of the community. It was hoped to have a draft constitution available for this meeting.
